German Compound Words: How to Build Big Words Easily (A1)<\/h2>\n

German is famous for its long words. But do not worry! These long words are just smaller words glued together. In grammar, we call them compound words<\/b> or Komposita<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Learning how they work is a fantastic way to grow your vocabulary very fast.<\/p>\n

What is a Compound Word?<\/h3>\n

A compound word is made when you put two or more words together to create a brand-new word.<\/p>\n

Usually, you take a Noun + Noun<\/b>.<\/p>\n

    Der Schlaf<\/b> (sleep) + Das Zimmer<\/b> (room) = Das Schlafzimmer<\/b> (the bedroom).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Important A1 Rule:<\/b> The last<\/i> word in the chain always chooses the gender (der \/ die \/ das<\/b>) of the new word! Because it is das<\/i> Zimmer, it becomes das<\/i> Schlafzimmer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Sometimes, Germans also combine two verbs to make a new activity. You will see these separate when you use them in a sentence.<\/p>\n
